Nonprofit Accounting and Form 990 in NJ

Form 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF preparation, unrelated business income review and board-ready financials for NJ nonprofits and HOAs.

A nonprofit’s Form 990 is a public document. Donors, grant makers and journalists read it, and it is the IRS’s main window into whether an organization is operating within its exemption. We prepare it carefully, explain it to your board and help keep the year-round records that make it straightforward.

What we prepare

  • Form 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, with the schedules your organization needs.
  • Form 990-T for unrelated business income, such as advertising, rentals or sales unrelated to your mission.
  • New Jersey charitable registration and annual report filings.
  • Board-ready financial statements and budget-to-actual reports.
  • Homeowner association returns, including the choice between Form 1120-H and Form 1120.

Which form you file

Organizations with gross receipts normally of $50,000 or less can file the electronic 990-N postcard. Those with gross receipts under $200,000 and total assets under $500,000 can file the 990-EZ. Larger organizations file the full Form 990, and private foundations always file the 990-PF. Missing three consecutive years automatically revokes exemption.

Frequently asked questions

When is the 990 due?

By the 15th day of the fifth month after your fiscal year ends, May 15 for calendar-year organizations, with a six-month extension available.

Does our income from events count as unrelated business income?

Usually not if the event is volunteer-run or substantially related to your mission, but regular commercial activities can be. We review each income stream.
