We handle both sides: Americans living overseas, and residents here with a life that crosses borders.## What we help with- **Foreign earned income exclusion:** up to $132,900 of foreign wages or self-employment income for 2026, if you meet the physical presence or bona fide residence test.
- **Foreign tax credit:** a dollar-for-dollar credit for income tax paid abroad, often the better choice in high-tax countries.
- **FBAR and Form 8938:** reporting foreign accounts that together exceeded $10,000 at any point in the year, and FATCA reporting at higher thresholds.
- **Foreign entities and investments:** Forms 5471, 8865 and 8621 for foreign companies, partnerships and funds.
- **Catching up:** the IRS streamlined procedures for people who didn’t know they had to file.
- **Leaving New Jersey or New York:** documenting a clean change of domicile so your former state can’t keep taxing you.## Choosing between the exclusion and the creditThe exclusion is simple and works well in low-tax countries. The credit often works better in high-tax countries and preserves access to the Child Tax Credit and IRA contributions. Once you revoke the exclusion you generally can’t claim it again for five years without IRS consent, so we compare both every year before choosing.## Frequently asked questions### I didn’t know I had to file FBARs. What now?If the IRS hasn’t contacted you and the failure wasn’t willful, the streamlined procedures usually let you file the missing returns and FBARs with reduced or no penalties. Act before the IRS reaches out.### Do I still owe New Jersey tax after moving abroad?Possibly, if New Jersey still considers you domiciled there. Selling or renting out your home, moving your driver’s license, voter registration and bank relationships, and documenting your intent all help establish the break.Talk it through with a CPAA free 45-minute strategy session with an experienced CPA.
